Short Intriduction
Jaklitera is the official application of the Jakarta Library. Library Members (Bibliography) can become library members. By becoming a Library Member through Jaklitera, you can make visit reservations and order books online. You can also find library service points and literacy events that are always updated every day, as well as library-library data in DKI Jakarta that may be near your house!
Background
Jaklitera is the digital gateway to Jakarta’s rich library network. Despite its potential, the app struggled with outdated aesthetics, poor usability, and brand inconsistency. These challenges limited its ability to fulfill its mission: encouraging library engagement and promoting literacy.
We took on the challenge of modernizing Jaklitera into a functional, visually engaging, and cohesive app that resonates with the Jakarta Library’s vision.
Problem
Jaklitera’s earlier iterations presented significant hurdles:
- Outdated visuals that didn’t reflect its modern audience.
- A cluttered user flow, making navigation confusing.
- A lack of cohesion with the Jakarta Library’s branding.
These flaws impacted user experience, making it less engaging and efficient.
Goals
Redesign Highlights: Making Literacy Accessible
a. Personalized Onboarding To ensure relevance, we introduced an onboarding process that gathers user preferences for genres, formats, and reading goals.
b. Simplified Navigation A cleaner, streamlined bottom navigation bar: Home, Search, Library, and Profile.
c. Modern Visual Hierarchy Bold typography, subtle color gradients, and refined spacing for better readability.
d. Quick Actions Users can now quickly access borrowed books, reservations, and personalized recommendations directly from the homepage.
e. Enhanced Book Discovery An intuitive search function and personalized book recommendations make exploration effortless.
Solution
The Redesign Approach: Modernizing While Staying True to the Core We took a deliberate approach:
- Preserving the core library functionalities.
- Introducing a user-first design approach.
- Aligning with Jakarta Library's branding guidelines.
User Research: Laying the Foundation Through interviews and usability tests, we discovered:
- Users often struggled with the cluttered layout and poor categorization.
- A lack of personalization reduced engagement.
- Information was hard to locate, leading to frustration. Our design process focused on solving these pain points.
The Power of Personalization The redesigned onboarding tailors the experience by allowing users to:
- Select preferred genres.
- Pick the best of your favorite format
- Choose your inspiring author This ensures that every user finds value in their library journey.
Consistent. With a Design System. We built a comprehensive design system to ensure scalability and consistency as Jaklitera evolves.
